Eleven Puerto Rican Organizations to Support on Giving Tuesday 2024

Over the years, 9 Millones has highlighted the work of multiple grassroots organizations. This Giving Tuesday, we invite you to support them.

Giving Tuesday is a global movement celebrated yearly on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. These organizations are transforming their communities through initiatives that address environmental justice, food security, gender equity, and community participation.

Your contribution will help strengthen projects led by and for communities, building a more equitable and sustainable present and future.

1.Institute for Agroecology Research and Action (IALA PR)

IALA PR promotes agroecology as a tool for building resistance and food sovereignty in Puerto Rico. Their mission includes stewardship, education, research, and community action to support ecological farmers across the archipelago.

2. Coalition for the Restoration of Santurcean Ecosystems (CRES)

CRES restores coastal ecosystems in Santurce with nature-based solutions. Their work helps to mitigate climate change and to protect vulnerable communities.

3. Mujeres de Islas (Women of the Islands, in English)

This organization empowers women in Culebra through economic development projects. Their Giving Tuesday campaign aims to raise funds to train 12 women in plumbing.

4. Taller Escuela Pescantil (Fishery School and Workshop, in English)

This self-managed center in Loíza promotes environmental and cultural education, with a particular focus on sustainable fishing. Their initiatives include workshops and a fishing camp for children.

5. La Maraña

With a focus on participatory design and environmental justice, La Maraña works with communities to co-create solutions that promote inclusive and sustainable spaces in Puerto Rico.

6. Alianza de Mujeres Viequenses (Vieques Women Alliance, in English)

For over two decades, this organization has defended women's rights in Vieques, fighting for environmental justice and access to essential services.

7. Amigxs del M.A.R. - Movimiento Ambiental Revolucionario (Friends of the S.E.A - Environmental Revolutionary Movement, in English)

This collective promotes marine conservation projects and environmental activism, which have been implemented with a vision of ecological justice for Puerto Rico’s coastal communities.

8. Community Land Trust for Sustainable Agriculture (FiTiCAS)

FiTiCAS promotes sustainable agriculture by preserving community lands. Their mission is to preserve their use for projects that benefit present and future generations.

9. Comedores Sociales PR

This organization fights hunger in Puerto Rico through a community kitchen, emergency food shopping, and the Súper Solidario Coop, a cooperative supermarket that offers local and fresh produce at affordable prices.  

10. Guakiá Farm

This women-led agroecological farm promotes food sovereignty and soil regeneration. From San Lorenzo, they offer a feminist and community-based educational space.

11. Vieques en Rescate (VER)

VER has offered financial and emotional support to cancer patients on Vieques for 11 years. Its flagship program is to provide transportation to medical appointments on the Big Island of Puerto Rico. 

Supporting these organizations on Giving Tuesday not only helps fund their projects but also strengthens the foundation for a fairer, more sustainable, and compassionate Puerto Rico.
